Reverse Image Searching

Factchecking Skills: Reverse Image Searching

Activity

Reverse Image Searching on an iPad...

The concepts for and strategies for reverse image searching in the video are universal, but some of the specific ways that you do the actual searching on an iPad are different. Today's activity is to experiment with reverse image searching and teach yourself how to accomplish the same kind of image searching that was demonstrated in the video on your iPad.

Google Image Searching:

  • To get started go to: Safari > Google.com > Images > Tap on the camera icon in the search box
  • Use reverse image searching to debunk this image that has been faked. Be prepared to explain how you detected the misinformation.

Tineye.com

  • Go to: tineye.com
  • Repeat the same search. Some images will show up in a Google reverse image search but not Tineye. At other times you will find matches in Tineye that you don't find in Google so it is good to know how to use both.
