New User's Manual: How to Care for and Use Your New Librarians...
The Mid-Pacific Library is an instructional and curricular program as much as it is a physical place or a collection of resources. With this in mind:
1) Loop us into your thinking process -- When you begin thinking about a project/unit/module, we can scaffold relevant and pertinent information literacy instruction (it’s our job) and develop authentic formative and summative assessments.
2) Scheduling lessons or collaborating on instruction with us is NOT a burden -- We WANT to work with you and your students. It's the reason we are here on campus. Please ask!
3) Research shows that targeted instruction (typically 3-5 lessons) over the arc of a project/unit/module is far more effective than decontextualized one-shot “library lessons” -- Instructional and scheduling priority are given to teachers who plan multiple-lesson instructional arcs with us.
4) Professional development -- Library lessons are designed to teach students sensible, pragmatic, doable information literacy concepts, skills, and dispositions. They can also “up you game” – demonstrating tools and strategies that expand your own repertoire. We welcome your input and your active participation – we can work together for student learning gains!
5) Contact us -- If you want to send small groups to the library to complete a specific task, please contact us in advance. When not being used for instruction, our space is available for community activities or needs.
6) Share recommendations -- Have a book, database, other resource that you would like to use in your instruction? Send your recommendation our way!
